Litzke Invasion 2014
A day in the life of a family of 18. I can’t truly say I have observed that because two of Mandy and Dave’s children weren’t present and they were guest at my house so I assume everyone was on their best behavior. But regardless, this is my third multi-day encounter with the Litzkes which has been affectionately dubbed the Litzke invasion. They ramble into our sleepy neighborhood located in Howell, NJ and liven things up. Along with the controlled chaos that ensues is a clear presence of the Lord that is palpable. It’s not that the children have halos and only a kind word is spoken or that knees are never skinned and the sun always shines. It’s more about being in the center of God’s will and honoring Him with your life and the peace that accompanies that.
The first year we got together one of Mandy and Dave’s children asked me my name and I said Superman. The running joke in the Litzke house throughout the year is when are we going to Superman’s house. This year as we were giving out the generic red plastic cup I wrote on Dave’s “The Real Superman”. As I pause and reflect on that are they really Superman and SuperWoman? Have they been given Super Powers? My answer is Yes and No. Dave and Mandy are an ordinary couple that believe they serve an extraordinary God and that someday they will meet Him face to face. Their Super Powers come in trusting the Lord to provide and striving to serve the Lord so that one day they will hear “Well Done Good and Faithful Servant” Matthew 25:21.
This picture was taken in my backyard the weekend of July 19. Almost half of the children in the picture are Dave & Mandy’s the balance are split between three other families. Each of these families felt called by God to adopt. We may not be called to adopt numerous children, but we are commanded to care for the orphan and widow in their distress. Thank you for the support you have given Bethany in helping us take strides to realizing our vision of every child in a loving family.
Be Bold for the Lord
